Contractors & Recruitment

Drill Rig

As stated, Apache does not own or operate any drill rigs but contracts drilling operations to specialised drilling companies. For the Van Gogh drilling campaign, Apache has selected Stena Drilling, who operate the Stena Clyde semi-submersible drill rig, to undertake the year-long drilling campaign associated with the development.

The rig is being serviced by large draft support vessels out of Dampier, however urgent parcels of equipment will be transported out of Exmouth using local marine service providers.

Employment on this drill rig is managed by the Perth office of Stena Drilling. Stena use a specialist labour hire company, Total Marine Services (TMS), based in Cockburn Sound, to source all the required labour hire. Positions on the rig vary from specialist technical tasks to semi-skilled. Some of the jobs on the rig include:

Floating Production and Storage Offtake (FPSO) Facility

Like the drilling operation, Apache is leasing the FPSO from a Company called Prosafe. Prosafe builds and operates FPSOs and currently operates a fleet of eight FPSOs around the world. They are presently converting three oil tankers to FPSOs.

Prosafe is responsible for employing the personnel required to operate the Van Gogh FPSO. Operational positions for the FPSO are highly skilled, requiring personnel with demonstrable competency and experience relevant to FPSO operations.

Prosafe will use a number of recruitment agencies to fill these specialist positions on the FPSO which is planned to be operational in 2009. Positions will be advertised via Prosafe’s website, www.prosafe.com
